Here is what’s happening at the union office Council 24.
Scholarships – Applications are due 3/15 for the annual Jim Boyd Memorial Scholarship awards. These scholarships are awarded to union members’ children. Your college student can apply for this financial help – just sign up anytime to recommit to the union (www.wseu-24.org) and make sure their application is in by 3/15.
Bowling Tournament – the annual scholarship fundraising bowling tournament is coming up April 27-28 in Beaver Dam. Come and join your union brothers and sisters and support a great cause! Contact Shannon – slinde@wseu-24.org for further info.
Marking the Anniversary – one year ago this month, legislators passed Act 10 which slashed and burned the middle class in our state. Activities marking the passive of a year have been ongoing all over the state. Here are two major events that cap it all off:
Friday, 3/9/12 – 6 p.m. – State Capitol – Candlelight Vigil
Saturday, 3/10/12 – 1:00 p.m. – Massive Rally at the State Capitol
Retirement – Council 24 has been leading a coalition of unions and retiree groups to preserve the security of the Wisconsin Retirement System, given the indications that this may be the next legislative target. Interested parties in the Milwaukee Area should plan now to attend this symposium to learn the facts and stand up for the security of the WRS. This is free, and open to all, active or retired. (Don’t assume you’re safe because you are already retired.) Here are the details:
